Rapid Intervention Team Training

Casco Fire Department is hosting a Regional Rapid Intervention Team Training on April 22, 24, and 25th, 2010. The first date is mostly classroom instruction, the following dates are hands-on training drills.

Prerequisites include:

• Current SCBA certification


• Interior firefighter


• Chief's approval and recommendation

Last Minute Haz Mat Operations Training Opportunity!

ATTENTION!!

EXCITING LAST MINUTE TRAINING OPPORTUNITY!!

There is a 24-hour SERC Approved HAZMAT OPERATIONS training program available to us starting this week in Auburn at the Central Station. It is a 3-day class that will be spanned over the next three weeks. The first class must be taken this week, either on Wednesday, March 10, 0800-1700; Thursday, March 11, 0800-1700; or Friday, March 12, 0800-1700. The next two classes will be available over the next two weeks on multiple days, so there is some flexibility.

This is an exciting program; when you finish, you will be certified to the Operations level.

Search and Rescue 3/1/10 and 3/8/10

Monday night's training will be Part 1 of 2 for Search and Rescue. This portion will be focused on interior search techniques, radio communications, and proper donning of SCBA. For operators and exterior FF's we will work on accountability. We will have a short classroom training and then a simulated search situation in the loft area at the station. Please review the first portion of Chapter 13, focusing on search techniques, in your J&B book prior to class.

Next Monday nights training will be part 2 of 2 for Search and Rescue. This portion will be focused on Rescue techniques, laddering for a rescue, and victim removal. Operators and exterior FF's will work ground operations. We will have a short classroom training and then a simulated rescue situation in the loft area at the station. Please review the second portion of Chapter 13, focusing on victim rescue techniques, in your J&B book prior to class.

Mandatory Trainings

It is that time of year again-mandatory trainings. Some of the topics covered will be hazmat, sexual harassment, fire extinguishers and more. Various dates and times are available to better accomodate members' different schedules; you only need to go to one training, not all of them. Please remember, all members must attend one of the following classes;

• Monday, February 22nd at 1900.


• Wednesday, February 24th at 1900.


• Friday, February 26th at 0900.


• Saturday, February 27th at 0900.
  

Drive up scenarios

Training for Monday, February 8th will be drive-up scenarios. This class will help to train our minds towards giving good size-ups that include confirming location, confirming emergency, initial scope, dimensions and identifying hazards. It's important to paint a good picture for responding units to help prepare them for that emergency.

Your instructors will be Chief Sacco and FF/EMT Elkanich.

First Aid Class

Training for Monday, February 1st at 1830 hrs. is first aid.

Captain Diane Delano, from Poland Fire and Rescue, will be the instructor for this first aid certification class. The class will focus on the non-licensed personnel who want to have a very basic knowledge of first aid. Would you know what to do if someone cut their hand and only you were there to help? If you're not 100% sure, then this class is for you. We do need an exact head count in order to get class materials, so please RSVP by January 18th at 12-noon to Car 5 by either email or text.

Annual CPR class

Training for Monday, January 25th will be our annual CPR and AED training. This is open to Fire and Rescue; it will serve as a refresher course for those who have taken this training before, and also will serve the needs of those who need first-time CPR certification.

IMPORTANT-

Firefighters-this class is a prerequisite for our upcoming first aid class. In order to receive your certification in the first aid class, you need to be CPR certified.

Your instructors will be Deputy Chief Rich and Lt. Bryant.

Cold Water Rescue Training

Raymond Fire and Rescue is hosting a 2-day Cold Water Rescue Training.

• Wednesday, January 20th at 1830 (classroom portion)
• Saturday, January 23rd at 0900 (full-day, hands-on)

Instructing the class will be Joe Mokry of Ocean Rescue Systems.

This is a specialized, technical rescue class that we would ask only those that are committed to utilizing, and upkeeping the needed skills by attending refresher classes, to attend. This is a hands-on class; you will be suiting up and getting in the water. There are no prerequisites or experience needed to attend this class, however I will need an exact head count by Monday, January 17th at 1200. Please respond by e-mail or text to Capt. St.Pierre. This deadline for RSVP's is very important, please do not delay.

Building Construction

Training for Monday, January 11th will be Building Construction. This is an important class, especially for those of us who do not work in, or around, that industry. We, as fire fighters, need to know building construction to identify hidden dangers, ways fire can travel, and aid offensive and defensive measures. To know the different building types by sight is a great advantage too. Hope to see you all there!
