Training for Monday, October 12th will be Individual Consumption Rate Challenges. What is this? Glad you asked...and no, it does not contain large amounts of hotdogs.
Individual consumption rates are regarding, in simple terms, how much air we use and how fast we use it in a working and non-working capacity.
In full turn out gear with SCBA, we will be putting you, as an individual, through a series of tasks that will raise your breathing rate to simulate working conditions at a structure fire. You will continue doing the tasks until you have completely depleted your air supply. This is timed to determine your air consumption in different working conditions and exertions. The information gained will be very helpful in knowing personal and department working capacities and limitations at actual incidents. To work as a team, its important to know our own and each others limits and maximums regarding how long our air is going to last.
