Training for Monday, January 4th at 7pm will be ropes and knots. This is one of those skills that's hard to stay proficient at; we don't use it nearly enough. So refreshers in this skill are a must. The knots link in the training tool box is a great resource. I recommend you check it out and also read chapter 9 of your J&B book. If your going to practice, practice with your gloves on.

Your Instructor will be Capt. St.Pierre.

Climbing to the Top

Training for Monday, Nov. 9th will be ladders. Ladders are a big part of the fire service; they are our lifeline when we are above the ground floor, give us roof access to vent heat and toxic gases out of a building, help remove victims from the second floor, and so on. Obviously I don't have to tell you we need to know the ins-and-outs of ladders well. We will have a short classroom portion and then get to hands-on work with some ladder drills. This will be a great opportunity for those that are not yet interior firefighters to learn related fireground operations that can be utilized while you are finishing your interior training. It is important that ALL fire personnel become comfortable and competent in ladder operations, so please make every attempt to join us. Please review chapter 12 of your J&B book prior to class. Your instructors will be Lt. Doyle and Capt. St.Pierre.

THE CHALLENGE

Training for Monday, October 12th will be Individual Consumption Rate Challenges. What is this? Glad you asked...and no, it does not contain large amounts of hotdogs.

Individual consumption rates are regarding, in simple terms, how much air we use and how fast we use it in a working and non-working capacity.

In full turn out gear with SCBA, we will be putting you, as an individual, through a series of tasks that will raise your breathing rate to simulate working conditions at a structure fire. You will continue doing the tasks until you have completely depleted your air supply. This is timed to determine your air consumption in different working conditions and exertions. The information gained will be very helpful in knowing personal and department working capacities and limitations at actual incidents. To work as a team, its important to know our own and each others limits and maximums regarding how long our air is going to last.

For more information on air management see link below and read chapter 17 (pg 537) in your Jones and Bartlett book. You may also refer to NFPA 1404.

Mutual aid with Poland Fire and Rescue

On Monday September 28th at 7pm A crew from Poland Fire and Rescue will be joining us to learn our Squad 1, so in the event they are covering our town and need to roll Squad 1 they will be familiar with it and its equipment.

In return, on Wednesday September 30th we will go to Poland's station and get familiarized with Poland's rescue 1, which is a very large and impressive heavy rescue. If you can make it, I would highly recommend checking this very equipped truck out.

Hose Testing- June 8th and June 22nd

It's that time of year again...hose testing time! On Monday, June 8th and 22nd we will be testing all of the hose on all of the trucks, excluding engine 3. That hose was tested at the Fire Attack School at the beginning of May. That leaves us with only three trucks to go through. With a good turnout, we will be able to get all the testing done in one night. This would leave the 22nd open for a different training. All help would be appreciated. Also keep in mind for the pump operators, this would be a good time to get some pump time in and for some of the newer members, you could get some of your hose requirements out of the way. Hope to see you all there.
